The Ultimate Father's Day Surprise

Last year I made a Father's Day storybook for my husband Merv, and he loved it so much that I decided to make him one this year too. I used the HM Exclusive Father's Day 7x5 book template and filled it with pictures of him and our two children as well as some heartfelt sentiments. The last page of the book was the real "gift." I placed two ultrasound pictures on it and wrote, "Daddy, I've heard so many wonderful things about you from my siblings, and I'm so honored that you will be my Daddy, too! I'm looking forward to meeting you on or about January 10, 2009!"

We actually gave Merv the book as soon as we received it, which was a week before Father's Day. He was so surprised and overcome with emotion as he read that last page.

We decided to wait to tell the rest of the family on Father's Day at the luncheon we already had planned. I gave my parents one copy of the book and Merv's parents another so that they could look through it at the same time. My mother-in-law had the best reaction of all!

This experience will definitely be included in our baby's storybook. These were truly priceless moments for our family and a great celebration of the new baby we will be welcoming to our family soon.

New Templates: One of the most important things you can do for your children is share your story. Not only does it strengthen family relationships, it gives children a sense of identity and importance. The most important things we can do at Heritage Makers is help you preserve your heritage.

In May and June, Heritage Makers released six new templates that focus heavily on helping you record your heritage and write your story. Each page comes with guiding questions, writing tips, and writing examples.
  • "The Life I've Lived" (life story)
  • "The Love I've Known" (love story)
  • "A New Story Begins" (baby book)
  • "Our Family's Roots" (three generation storybook)
  • "What It Means to Be a [Jones]" (family values book)
  • "Before I Was Your Mother" (mother's coming of age story)
These templates are available only through your Heritage Makers consultant. Contact her today and ask her to help you get started on your story!
STUDIO TIPS & TRICKS
  • You probably know that to stretch the dimensions of a photo or an art element, you need to go to the Layout tab on the Tool Box and "uncheck" the Lock Proportions box. But did you know you can skip that step simply by holding down the Shift key and dragging on one of the sides of your object? This will temporarily unlock the proportions of your object until you click off of it.
  • Sometimes, when you're rotating an object, it can be hard to get it exactly at a 90 or 180 degree angle. You can always check the angle of your object on the Layout tab of your tool box, but there's a faster way to get your right angle just right. Hold down your Shift key as you rotate your object, the object will automatically snap to right angles as you drag the rotation handle (blue line running down the center of the object).
  • Have you ever thought of using a text box as a background? Choose a few keywords that capture the spirit of your photographs. Create a large text box and fill it with those words. Suggestion: leave some space between the words so there is still plenty of white space in the box. Finally, use the transparency slider to fade the words. Place photos on top. Also consider angling your text box to create an interesting point of perspective.
