IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Template Designer program has recently gone through some important updates which effect all designers submitting projects for release at our Reunion event. These enhancements include the introduction of credit/cash awards and an adjustment to the royalty system and market place.
Coming Soon: Creative Center
This Fall, we will be releasing an exciting addition to our Heritage Studio: the Creative Center™. This new addition will include a template gallery where Basic and Premier members can choose professional, predesigned templates…for FREE! These templates allow customers to complete beautiful, meaningful projects quickly by simply swapping their own photos and text.Filling Up the Gallery
We will reveal this gallery at our national Reunion convention in September and we want to ensure that it is full of terrific templates! From now until August 20th consultants can submit their projects to be considered for addition into the template gallery. Our goal is to begin the Fall with hundreds of wonderful templates.Consultant Submitted Templates
Submitted templates will be reviewed by the template selection committee and are approved based upon the following guidelines.Guidelines
- Adherence to Heritage Studio design standards:
- Art elements should not be enlarged to the point at which they lose resolution and quality: they should not be stretched beyond a green or yellow border.
- There should be ¼ to ½ inch margin between design elements and the gray edge of the page, unless the designer intends the design elements to be full-bleed—to deliberately run off the page.
- Shadow distances should be subtle. Please do not increase shadow distance beyond a “5.”
- Layout: our review team is looking for skillful layouts that are easy on the eye. Avoid cramming the page full of elements. Group related elements together such as photos, text, embellishments, etc. Keep the headline and text together when possible.
- Skillful use of color: Some colors work well together. Others do not. Analogous colors (next to each on the color wheel) and complementary colors (on opposite sides of the color wheel) work well together. To learn more about the color wheel, go to www.colormatters.com/colortheory or google the words “color wheel.”
- Contrast: use contrasting elements in your layout. Contrast shapes, colors, fonts, lines and textures. Hint: limit yourself to two textures or two fonts in a layout.
- Repetition: unify your design by repeating elements like shapes, stripes, rounded or sharp edges, colors, etc.
It’s impossible to accurately describe “the perfect layout.” There are no limits to individuality and creativity. But remember, to know how to break a rule, you first have to know how to follow it.
For examples of these design principles, go to the Heritage Makers homepage and click on the “Heritage Studio Webinars” sign in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Click on the links beneath “Special Webinar” to see a PowerPoint and watch a webinar. For another PowerPoint presentation with design tips, look under Watch a Recorded Webinar: Studio 2.0 Master Class and select 4/17/08 – Dacia Brewer.
