Best of Heritage 2008

It's that time of the year...the time when we search for the Best of the Best. We're looking for Best of Heritage nominations in the following categories:

BEST OF HERITAGE PAST

These are stories that focus on heroes from our past. Our grandparents, mothers and fathers, or even that special teacher who made an impact on our lives. These storybooks focus strongly on the life story and contribution of the person.

BEST OF HERITAGE PRESENT

Who are your heroes today? Who do you admire? Who do you look up to? Stories in this category are about people who contribute to family heritage every day. These are people who are making a difference in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and others in their lives. These storybooks can be autobiographical or written by a third-party.

BEST OF HERITAGE FUTURE

This category focuses on heritage making for the future. Storybooks here tell the story for the future by using the power of storybooking in celebrating and teaching the values, traditions, and expectations of a child's heritage.

BEST OF HERITAGE CELEBRATION

Those everyday moments are cause for celebration. The weddings, family vacations, birthday parties...they all help shape and form the family. Storybooks in this category celebrate the special moments, no matter how you choose to create the memories.

All storybooks in each category will be judged on story and design elements. Submissions without story will not be considered.

Winners will be announced at Reunion '08 where special recognition will be given.

BEST OF HERITAGE WINNERS 2007

Last year, we honored three storybooks with our Best of Heritage Awards. In case you missed it, here's a look at the winners.

"LIVING...NOT EXISTING"
by Sherry Caves

Sherry was hit by a drunk driver not once, but twice, in her lifetime. The first car accident left her as a paraplegic. Sherry shares her story about overcoming the odds of living in a wheelchair while raising a family, kayaking, hiking, and fighting for others' rights...all while living her life with enthusiasm and hope. Her's is a story of hope, courage, and "happily ever after."

"MY LAST CONVERSATION WITH MOM"
by Patricia Glass

Alzheimers is a disease that affects so many...the past, the present, and the future. In her storybook, Patricia tells us the story of her mother—before and after Alzheimers. Patricia shares beautiful memories of her mother's life so her children will have something to remember about their grandmother. This story is truly one that celebrates life.

"MY LIFE, MY LOVE, MY LAUGHTER"
by Germaine Schroeder

Having raised 13 children, Germaine could write a novel about her life experience! While her life may have seemed normal and ordinary to her, the everyday experiences meant the world to her children. Germaine's life, her love, her strength, and her determination are now recorded for future generations. Her great-great grandchildren will know their grandma and learn to love the life she lived.
